Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services

The Children’s Case Management Team provides support to the child and their family.  Services are available for children in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. The Team helps to link families to community resources and advocates for the family when needed.  Case managers serve as coordinators to the children and their families who are in need of multi-agency services.

Children’s Outpatient Services offer mental health services for children and their families in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie Counties.  Children and adolescents may be referred by family, school, the courts, or self-referred.

 

Services include diagnosis, evaluation and treatment.  Based upon the evaluation and diagnosis, appropriate treatment will be provided. Treatment may consist of individual, group or family counseling, case management, psychiatric evaluation and medication management.  Children’s Outpatient Centers are conveniently located throughout the four county service area.

Emergency Screening Services are available to all children and adults of Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie Counties. Services include diagnostic evaluations for mental illness, serious emotional disturbances, and chemical dependency. If a more extensive evaluation is required, children will be referred to another location, either voluntarily or by legal order.  Referrals to other services are made when necessary.

           

Emergency Screening Center is located at 4500 W. Midway Road in Fort Pierce.  The Center is open 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.  For additional information call 772-468-5600.   

 

Mobile Crisis Response Team provides immediate on-site assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, linkage and referral for children who are experiencing crisis.  Services are available for residents in Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie County. Services are accessed by referral from law enforcement officials, emergency room staff, or school officials. 

 

Services also include follow-up as needed to promote crisis resolution, evaluation and arrangement for inpatient hospitalization if necessary. Mobile Crisis services are provided by trained mental health professionals in an effort to provide safe alternatives to involuntary admissions to a treatment facility. Mobile Family Services Team provides prevention/intervention services to families who are at imminent risk of having their children removed from the home due to abuse or neglect.   Families are referred to the team by DCF Protective Investigators and participation is voluntary or may be court ordered. 

 

The Team provides intensive on-site counseling and immediate assistance to help resolve problems the families are facing.  Counselors work with the families for up to 60 days to help stabilize the family and connect them to available community services.

 

The major goal of the Team is to keep the children in their home with their family; and provide services that encourage and support the prevention of child abuse or neglect. 

 

Strengthening Families is a family skills training program that serves families in St. Lucie County with children ages 5 to 14.  The program provides a 14 week curriculum that addresses family management issues and early and persistent anti-social behavior. Families attend classes and learn parenting skills, children’s skills and family life skills.

 

The program outcomes have shown significant improvement in several areas.  Parents are less likely to mistreat their children; children show reduced problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse.  Children have also exhibited improved social behavior and school performance.

Therapeutic Behavioral On-Site Services (TBOS) program is designed as an intensive intervention for children with mental health problems.  It includes input from parents, teachers and school officials.  The program is available for children in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie Counties. 

 

The program provides therapeutic services such as teaching problem solving skills, anger management skills and other treatment methods as needed.  These services are designed to maximize client strengths and reduce behavior problems in school and at home.
