New Horizons Receives $15,000 Grant from Hobe Sound Community Chest

Press Release:  March 15, 2008

New Horizons is pleased to announce a $15,000 grant from the Hobe Sound Community Chest.  “The Community Chest has been a long time supporter of New Horizons and our programs,” said John B. Romano, CEO.  “This generous donation will be used to purchase a vehicle for our Mobile Family Services Team that works with families in the Hobe Sound community.”

Founded in 1949, the Hobe Sound Community Chest funds social service agencies that provide essential services to residents in need in Hobe Sound.

“We are so thankful for this donation,” said Linda Wakefield, facilities manager.  “The Chevy Impala we are using now is 11 years old and constantly needs maintenance.” The new car will be used by the staff to drive children and their families to numerous locations, including appointments with physicians and counselors.

Mobile Family Services Team provides prevention/intervention services to families who are at risk of having their children removed from the home due to abuse or neglect.   The Team provides intensive on-site counseling and immediate assistance to help resolve problems the families are facing.

Counselors work with the families for up to 60 days to help stabilize the family and connect them to available community services. The major goal of the Team is to keep the children in their home with their family; and provide services that encourage and support the prevention of child abuse or neglect.

New Horizons is a non-profit organization that provides mental health and substance abuse treatment for children and adults living in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie Counties.  For information call 772-468-4076 or the web-site www.nhtcinc.org.
