New Friends Join New Horizons

Press Release:  June 5

New Horizons is pleased to announce that a group of caring citizens in Okeechobee has formed the organization’s first community advisory council.   Ida Clemons, a New Horizons Board Member is the energetic force behind the group. She recruited friends, family and community leaders to help raise the awareness of the services New Horizons provides to the men, women and children in Okeechobee.

New Horizons is in the early stages of a capital campaign to construct a children’s crisis center that will serve kids in four counties.  Members of the Okeechobee Advisory Council, along with community advisory councils in St. Lucie, Martin, and Indian River Counties, will assist New Horizons in raising funds for this desperately needed facility.

“We are thrilled that this wonderful group of people in Okeechobee has stepped forward to help New Horizons,” said Pat Daum, Director of Fund Development. “We look forward to working with them in the coming months to make the vision of the children’s crisis center a reality.”

Advisory committee members include:  Connie Abney, Debbie Clemons, Marie Culbreth, Reda Larson, Sheriff Paul May, Laura Murray, Joanna Norris, Sharon Robertson and Marvin Wherrell.

Individuals interested in serving on one of the community advisory councils are encouraged to call Pat Daum at 772-468-4076 or e-mail pdaum@nhtcinc.org.
