Friends of New Horizons Plan Tribute to Dr. Fred Brown
Press Release: October 5, 2007
A few years ago pediatrician Dr. Fred Brown moved to Vero Beach from Okeechobee. He and his wife wanted to live closer to their family and he planned on cutting back his hectic schedule, and working part-time.
However, his Okeechobee patients missed their favorite doctor. They continued to call and drove to Vero to see him. After a few months, Brown had a change of heart and returned to Okeechobee to work for Community Health Care, Inc. While he has maintained his residence in Vero, he sees patients four days each week in Okeechobee.
Now, the Okeechobee Friends of New Horizons are planning a Tribute to honor Dr. Fred Brown. The beloved pediatrician has been caring for children for more than 49 years, 27 of them in Okeechobee.
“Dr. Brown is one of the kindest and most patient doctors you will ever meet,” said Marie Culbreth, a member of the Okeechobee Friends. “For some families in town, he is now caring for the third generation.”
The Tribute to Dr. Brown will be held on Thursday, November 1 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee in the ROC Recreation Center. Guests will be treated to a delicious prime rib dinner by George and Mary Beth Cooper.
“We hope everyone in the community will turn out to honor this very special man,” said Connie Abney chairwoman.
Individual tickets for the event are $25. Sponsorships, program ads and reserved tables are also available. Proceeds from this special event will help build The Center for Children at New Horizons that will benefit boys and girls from Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie, Counties.
The Big O sponsors for the event include: Gilbert Chevrolet, George and Mary Beth Cooper, Florida Community Health Centers Inc., Larson Dairy Inc., Emory Walker Company, Inc.
