New Horizons Breaks Ground for Children’s Crisis Center
On Friday, November 14, the community gathered together at the main campus of New Horizons to break ground for a 20 bed children’s crisis unit that will serve kids from Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie Counties. Senator Ken Pruitt presented the keynote address.
The groundbreaking ceremony also served as the official launch of 4 Our Kids, the four county capital campaign to raise $3.2 million for the remainder of the building costs. The State of Florida has previously granted New Horizons close to $1.6 million toward the construction of the facility. Vernon Smith, CEO of Riverside National Bank, will be the Honorary Chair of the campaign.
“This emergency center will provide a safe and caring place for boys and girls ages 6-17 who are experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis,” said John B. Romano, President and CEO of New Horizons. “The Center will also be a place of hope and recovery…a haven where families can come together for counseling and assistance in dealing with their children’s emotional problems.”
