Carrying Forward a Legacy of Compassion: Frances Langford and the New Horizons Children's Crisis Center

At New Horizons of the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee, our mission to bring healing and hope to the most vulnerable members of our community would not be possible without the compassion and generosity of those who came before us. One of the most remarkable contributors to this legacy is Hollywood star and beloved philanthropist Frances Langford, whose vision and kindness helped make the New Horizons Children’s Crisis Center a reality.

A Star On and Off the Stage

Frances Langford’s career spanned decades and left a profound mark on American entertainment. With a voice that soothed the hearts of a generation, she rose to fame as a singer and actress during Hollywood's Golden Age. Whether lighting up the silver screen or charming audiences on the radio, her talent and charisma made her a household name. In recognition of her tremendous contributions, Frances Langford was awarded not just one, but two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame—one for her work in motion pictures and another for her achievements in radio broadcasting.

But perhaps her most enduring legacy isn’t found in the lights of Hollywood. It's here, in our own backyard.

Later in life, Frances Langford made the Treasure Coast her home and dedicated much of her time and resources to improving the lives of those around her. Her deep care for the community inspired her to support mental health services, especially for children facing unimaginable struggles. Her generosity played a pivotal role in the establishment of the New Horizons Children’s Crisis Center—a sanctuary where young people experiencing mental health crises can find safety, support, and healing when they need it most.

Continuing Her Mission of Care

Today, New Horizons proudly carries forward Frances Langford’s spirit of compassion. In the Children’s Crisis Center, we see her legacy in every smile of a child who finds hope, in every family that feels less alone, and in every life transformed by timely mental health care.
